Spring is in the air at the Sacramento Historic Rose Garden and the Rose Chat Podcast has the scoop on every opportunity to "Put your nose in a rose" in this garden that is considered by many to be a national treasure. 
 
The Sacramento Historic Rose Garden has been recognized by the Great Rosarians of the World Hall of Fame award and is a World Federation of Rose Societies   Garden of Excellence for its efforts to preserve roses that would otherwise be lost. April is when the roses are at peak bloom, and activities in the garden abound!
 
This is a perfect time to have the garden Curator, Anita Clevenger with us. Anita and a team of dedicated volunteers care for the almost 500 roses in this beautiful garden

William Radler grew up in Wisconsin and bought his first rose at age 9. He joins us to talk about his early rose growing experience and how through those relationships, made a commitment to create low maintenance roses. Hear how the Knock Out rose got its name and about his continuing work to create low maintenance roses we all can enjoy.Mr. Radler holds a degree in landscape architecture and spent 23 years in the industry, most notably 13 years as Director of Boerner Botanical Gardens. Adorned with beautiful statues, dramatic markers and lush gardens, the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery is an outdoor museum recording California history from the Gold Rush Era through today and is the home of the Sacramento Historic Rose Garden at the Cemetery. Anita Clevenger, Curator of the rose garden joins us to chat about the history of the garden, the wonderful collection of roses that grows there and she shared information on their upcoming Open Garden Day where rose lovers from around the globe come to tour the garden and have an opportunity to purchase on-site some of rare roses that are growing in the cemetery. This garden was recently awarded the Great Rosarians of the World Award "Garden Hall of Fame Award" for the outstanding efforts of the team of volunteers that work tireless hours to ensure that this living museum is maintained and that all who come receive an education on the roses therein. Cemetery Rose Website

Great Rosarians of the World Honoree 2014 - Danielle Hahn
This year's honoree is Danielle Hahn, owner of Rose Story Farms in Carpinteria, California. Mrs. Hahn and her family currently grow 25,000 rose bushes of 120 different varieties with a solid organic focus for the cut flower trade and the local Santa Barbara and Montecito market. 
She has successfully combined her passion for roses into a small business that combines her love of rose growing and her personal contacts in her upscale market. Dani has proven the viability of the small boutique rose nursery and small organic farm and provides a wonderful example for the future of the industry. She has managed to provide her clients with beautifully grown, fragrant, and colorful blooms while expanding to offer educational tours which help educate her audience with the knowledge to grow healthy roses successfully. 
Danielle Hahn is being honored as the 2014 Great Rosarian for her work developing a strong example for the small organic rose growing farm and her willingness to share her love of the rose with everyone she meets.
